How common are Head lice and Nits?
Head lice and nits are very common schools. Some studies have shown that more than one child in ten is infected by head lice every year
Head lice are easily spread from child to child in the classroom or preschool. When playing, younger children often put their heads together. The head lice are then passed to other family members including adults.
Head lice do not discriminate. They are not concerned if you're rich or poor, male or female, young or old, clean or dirty.
Head lice are not too fussy about the type of head they live on. It can be very long or quite short, it can be very dirty or crisp and clean, it can be dry or greasy. Head lice will live and lay their nit eggs in all types of hair.
Studies have shown that the head lice problem has got worse in recent years. Head lice are much more common then they were 30 years ago.
However, the stigma that was sometimes attached with catching head lice or nits has greatly reduced. This is mainly due to better information and education about head lice, nits and treatments.
